    About Independence Court of Hyattsville

Independence Court of Hyattsville is an assisted living & memory care community centrally located in the historic Hyattsville Arts District, South of the University of Maryland, at East-West Highway and Route 1 in Hyattsville, Maryland. There are numerous unique shops, restaurants, historical sites, and a community center to enjoy with friends and family. Our community is also within minutes of five major hospitals.

As you enter Independence Court, you’ll experience a warm welcome from our lobby receptionist. Spa-like colors and décor make our assisted living community peaceful and comfortable. Our community is affordable, offering both private and semi-private packages. Independence Court is also proud to accept Medicaid Waiver, veterans’ Aid and Attendance, long-term care insurance, and private pay.

Independence Court has two beautiful courtyards for socializing and relaxing. They are sunny and bright, with just the right amount of shade and a beautiful array of garden flowers. Our courtyards are large enough to hold our summer series of concerts as well as barbecues where we serve our homemade lemonade.

    Life Enrichment Programming

Independence Court’s Life Enrichment program boasts many opportunities that give our residents a purpose every day. Our program is resident-centered and created to nurture the mind, body, and soul.  Our life enrichment director meets with residents to understand their interests and needs. Activities, classes, and events are thoughtfully chosen and based on resident interests and participation.

In addition to regularly scheduled activities, we offer a community outreach program. In the summer, we have Bingo Mania, an event that includes residents’ families and partners, with proceeds going toward school supplies for inner-city schools. In the fall, residents make “welcome home” cards for soldiers returning home for the holidays.

Independence Court is so close to the District of Columbia, there are plentiful outings for our residents. Favorite visits include museums and memorials, as well as scenic drives through town. We also hold educational classes such as veterans’ advocacy and arthritis and pain management.

Programming at Independence Court keeps us vibrant and in touch with our surrounding community. You’ll find our vibrant program inspires residents to lead fulfilling and active lives.

    Dining Program

Join us for three meals a day, plus snacks! The dining experience at Independence Court is a great way to meet with friends and enjoy our kind staff. Our setting is restaurant-style, with beautiful glassware and cloth linens. Meals are prepared fresh on-site. Meals are nutritious, delicious, and incorporate regional flavors. Assisted Living

At Independence Court of Hyattsville, our focus is supporting our residents’ independence and overall wellness. Compassion and quality of care is our best attribute! We provide our residents with a friendly and caring environment where the staff builds relationships with both the residents and their families. Residents experience one-on-one attention daily. Because of the longevity of our staff, we have consistently provided the highest quality of care for our residents.

The care that each resident receives at Independence Court is unique to his or her needs. Each resident’s activities of daily living (ADLs), such as dressing, bathing, and hygiene, are assessed upon move-in and regularly throughout their stay. We work with the resident, family members, and health practitioners to create the right plan of care for each person.

Care-related services include, but are not limited to:

    • Care staff at the community 24-hours a day, 7-days a week
    • Personal care assistance with activities of daily living
    • Medication assistance and administration
    • Mobility assistance
    • Continence maintenance
    • Weekly visits from an outside physician
    • On-site visits from the dentist, podiatrist, home health, and more

At Independence Court of Hyattsville, we have an on-site rehabilitation center when additional therapy is needed after an event or injury. A physician’s order for physical, occupational, or speech therapy is necessary, and our outside therapy group can help. This convenience can help a resident get back to their regular routine quickly.

    Memory Care Neighborhood

Memory Lane, our Memory Care Neighborhood, utilizes Priority Life Care’s memory care programming called Along the Journey. The Along the Journey program was created for our seniors with memory impairments and as a way for families and caregivers to develop strong relationships. A successful transition involves supporting the resident in their new environment and being a resource for the family.

    Along the Journey

    Goals of Along the Journey:

    • Create a safe and comfortable environment for residents
    • Provide consistent, well-trained caregivers specific to dementia care
    • Provide care based on each resident’s abilities and needs, with respect to the individual’s culture and preferences
    • Achieve the highest quality of life possible for each resident through cueing and assistance
    • Be a resource and provide support to families, staff, and other residents

In Memory Lane, we use activities to help reduce residents’ agitation, improve their moods, and encourage social interaction. Popular activities include morning coffee (hydration) and news, listening to music, spiritual programs, ice cream socials, reminiscing, trivia, and puzzles. One-on-one sensory activities may also be used to help residents relax and have a good night’s rest.

Testimonial

“When we were looking for (care for) our loved one, we were concerned with cost, care, access to transportation, and a welcoming environment. Independence Court of Hyattsville did the best job of meeting those criteria. The facility is big enough to handle the medical care issues we were concerned about. The food is good. Overall, we think this was a good choice for our needs.”
