4 Major Benefits in Choosing a Senior Living Community

December 8, 2020

Senior Living may be the right option for someone who needs regular personal care with everyday activities such as help with medications, dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, or food preparation. But how can we be sure the benefits outweigh the risk? Here are 4 benefits to choosing a senior living community in today’s world:

1. Safe Socialization

Seniors who choose a senior living community are offered safer social opportunities that help communities remain their vibrancy. Our social events may look different than they used to, but with communication and a little understanding, residents are able to safely socialize. Scheduled dining and small group activities lead to more intimate gatherings where residents are able to socialize with one another.

Life Enrichment departments continue to offer programming tailored to the seniors who live in our communities. In addition, we are able to showcase virtual and interactive programming that includes virtual tours, travel, educational classes, performance arts, fitness, and more. Management and staff regularly visit residents in their apartments as well as regular wellness checks with care staff. Our focus during wellness checks and personal care help us understand the resident’s well-being.

All of our communities have the capability, whether it be Zoom, Facetime, or another video-related app, face-to-face visits if you are unable to visit. Many family members choose to have “window visit” conversations with their loved ones if outside visitors have been restricted from entering the building.

2. Strict infection control policies.

A great reason for choosing a senior living community is knowing they continually step up their infection control policies through federal, state, and local guidelines.

For staff and residents, Priority Life Care starts with education. We hold in-person education, posters, and videos, for matters such as proper handwashing technique, wearing face masks, and physically distancing oneself from others.

Additionally, our communities follow best practices through cleaning and limiting visitors, as possible, to further stop the spread of infection. Safe practices include:

  • Routine cleaning to high-touch, common areas like lobbies, elevators, and hallways. As well as nightly deep cleans. See how Priority Life Care communities are using electrolyzed water to safely and effectively clean our communities here.
  • All staff and any outside visitors are screened along with temperature and oxygen levels taken as they walk in the door. Staff is not allowed to come to work when they are feeling ill. And every new admission is tested for COVID-19.
  • All deliveries are left outside, or in some cases, right inside a corridor, to minimize persons entering the community.
  • The availability of hand sanitation is increased throughout the community.
  • Everyone must enter through a designated door to complete pre-screen and proper hand hygiene before entering the community.
  • Each Priority Life Care community works closely with their state and local Departments of Health as well as follows guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Each of our communities has adopted testing, screening, and contact tracing for residents, staff members, and visitors.

3. On-site Wellness and Health Care Services

It’s important that our residents continue to feel at their best. Priority Life Care continues to provide the right opportunities for residents to focus on overall wellness. We encourage residents to take part in fitness opportunities available on-site in small groups, virtual, and sometimes outdoors (weather permitting). Many residents are also able to access online fitness through programs like Silver Sneakers.

To reduce the risk of infection, Priority Life Care communities are able to provide on-site access services such as physicians, physical therapy, and pharmacy services. Telehealth may also be available, as applicable.

4. Be a Daughter (or Son) Again

When food, medicine, care, home maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry is taken care of by the community, you can focus on being the daughter again. With resident’s 24/7 access to support, you can have peace of mind knowing that our staff is always on-site to support your loved one. You will also have accessibility to our staff for questions, comments, and updates on your loved one’s health. Giving us the caregiver duties means you can be a daughter again.
